Grandma's recipe.

Haldi, milk, lime, and honey, mentioned in one of my previous posts, are known to help with inflammation and benefit our body systemically. So, how about cleaning those yellow extrinsic stains while taking care of your body? After a cough or cold  I still remember walking around the poster presentation conference at the James Graham Brown Cancer Center at the University of Louisville, Kentucky, USA, in the CTR building (Center for Translational Research) and noticing an abundance of our very own Haldi, or turmeric, being researched by numerous scientists for its beneficial effects on cancer. Turmeric, which we routinely add to our food, has shown promise:  Learn more . So, after getting an aesthetic composite veneer or filling done, a polishing might be required every 2-3 years, or simply a cleaning for your other teeth, for a confident smile!

Recession

Image
Recession : Multiple aspects must be considered to avoid it, as it impacts global, national, and individual family levels. Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Raghuram Rajan simplified it to: Jobs, Jobs, Jobs . Even with 7% growth, more is needed. This begins with investing in health. A healthy workforce, which includes a positive mindset and confidence—starting with something as simple as a smile—lays the foundation. Knowing where to start is key. Investing in health leads to a healthy mind and body, fostering a spirit to work and generate ideas. This contributes to the startup culture, which then leads to education and upskilling, ultimately driving GDP growth for infrastructure development. Similar to gums, which play a supportive role, neglecting health investments can lead to complications. For instance, gum recession often results from not dedicating time to brushing, cleaning, or regular checkups. Sensitive teeth might require toothpaste like Sensodyne, or for severe

ART can change one's life. So can Atraumatic Restorative Treatment. Huh? What's the difference? And how? Art, as we know, helps us understand the deeper aesthetics of a pleasing Mona Lisa smile. Meanwhile, Atraumatic Restorative Treatments with Glass Ionomer fillings or 3M Pit and Fissure Sealants are designed for dentists to detect early signs of decay and address them without any drilling or damage to the tooth. These treatments fill up crevices and seal them, preventing food from lodging and causing decay. Preserving the natural tooth structure helps maintain that Mona Lisa smile. Atraumatic Restorative Treatments ensure your smile is preserved for generations to come, along with the comfort of enjoying nutritious meals with ease. Simply check if the sealant is intact, assess if it needs a touch-up or refill, and you’re good to go! Each one of you has a unique DNA code to a mysterious smile. Maybe not the Mona Lisa smile, like the one above painting by my mother, Mrs. Re

Food for thought. 💭🤔

Once, a patient was sitting in the chair and suddenly demanded, "Get me my old files." It might have been a total misunderstanding in communication, but it's common for patients to question whether the work was done well or if it should be free when not liable, especially after the standard post-care period of 15 days. This is often a result of human error, the learning curve, or practice with time—an aspect that’s a shared responsibility between the practitioner and the scientists who deliver the technology, with the patient therefore called to follow post-care instructions. Whether it’s complex procedures like implants or simple silver fillings—despite concerns about toxicity—what matters is the longer durability gained from experience. After investing time, effort, and money into learning, and with the patient's trust in the procedure, this needs to be understood. If you trust your doctor, go back to them. I am sure their intentions are to do their best within the

Let this stick: Gums or calculus?

This is only my hypothesis: the success or failure of an institute or hospital is based on the dental department, much like the GDP of a country relies on its dental index. GDP growth and expansion are stimulated by prevention. It is important to show that institutions care about lives and humanity, as this trust-building over time leads patients to keep coming back and reinvesting their hard-earned money in health. If the dental department of an institution is relegated or shut down, it will eventually lead to its downfall. This is a clear indicator that the institute stands only for profits and not for properly working to support life. Just like gums need to be cleaned deep down in pocket areas that can't otherwise be reached, neglect leads to deeper pockets, requiring more extensive cleaning, and eventually, the tooth will fall out. Therefore, supporting structural engineering works—keeping the integrity of systems intact—is crucial. All preventive care starts with oral hygiene

Fear Factor: Does Cancer Detection Scare You?      Nowadays, there are multiple tools—and sometimes fools—that can either scare you or help with detection, ranging from genetic testing with Mapmygenome to scanning using the Sascan machine. Fool You? Why? Sometimes, in the rush to start treatment, you may not weigh all the pros and cons of the options, such as chemotherapy versus hormonal therapy, among others. Hospitals or doctors might push you toward what they believe is right, rather than prioritizing what you feel is best for you. This is similar to initial atomic research agreements, where terms often favored the party providing the technology. Likewise, any agreement you sign is typically biased toward the party drafting it. It’s crucial to do your own research before making a decision. Sascan: A Reliable Tool While I haven’t personally used the Sascan machine, I believe it to be a reliable tool developed by Dr. Subhash Narayan. He also helped me understand the physics behind o

Dil (heart): prophylaxis (antibiotic and cleaning)

Image
Some systemic heart diseases can be indicated by the health of your gums. When a patient walks in, you can’t just start cleaning immediately. You need to have a conversation and build trust so they feel comfortable sharing their medical information privately. Trust tends to be better established or already present when patients are referred by someone they trust. I understand that conditions like pacemakers or valve issues often require antibiotic prophylaxis before cleaning (to prevent infective endocarditis, also known as subacute bacterial endocarditis or SABE). Older pacemakers, which lack shielding, can be affected by ultrasonic scalers. In such cases, hand scaling may be the safer option, although it is more tedious. It’s essential to follow recommendations and seek clearance or guidance from a cardiologist or periodontist. Bacteria entering through the gums can lead to arterial plaque, atherosclerosis, and heart issues, as supported by various studies (e.g.,  Harvard Health ).

Rotten apple: Decay in one tooth can spread to the neighboring tooth, just like a rotten apple can spoil another. Not stay hungry, stay foolish: Stay healthy, stay good.

Decay—in truth, society, or even in teeth—could be better aligned by our dear orthodontist friends, ensuring no cyclic relapse. Toothsi speechless:  While scanning by a dental technician seems acceptable, the delivery of treatment must be done by a dentist. Surprisingly, actors and actresses often seem to possess better orthodontic "knowledge" than actual orthodontists. Why can’t they run preventive care measures or educational campaigns, like the Gutka campaign by an actor, alongside corrective measures? I'm sure they are Disclaimer:  Educational campaigns are acceptable, but not *advertisements. Google Ads remains a question mark, as their policies frequently change—often seeming to align with their own interests or pressure from larger entities. This is solely my professional point of view, coming from the preventive and community dentistry department, though my knowledge in this area is limited. In my final year, I got my highest marks in orthodontics and thought, &q

Gargle

Gargoyles, scary stuff... or red gums? Or that ad showing blood on your apple bite? 😉 Or blood as you brush? What's this all about, you ask? Sometimes it's about deep cleaning, sometimes routine dental cleaning. Now, I'll tell you the trick behind effective cleaning: If your hygienist—or better yet, your dentist—does it personally, each tooth gets individual attention from all directions. A quick visual examination with a mouth mirror or probe doesn't achieve that level of detail. Getting this done annually is recommended. The choice is yours! With this, you can gain a deeper understanding of your oral health—and sometimes even your general health (we'll get to that). After routine cleaning, our textbooks recommend using Chlorhex ADS (Dr. Reddy's is a reliable brand) for two weeks post-cleaning, morning and night, with the water flosser mentioned earlier. Use it as prescribed—don’t purchase it unless recommended by your dentist. Alternatively,  Colgate Gentle

What have you noticed? Headaches, neck aches, running around in circles getting MRIs, and visiting specialist neurosurgeons... Simple solution:  Go for a routine checkup. Trust your dentist and share what’s in your heart and mind. Share all your issues—dentists usually have time to listen if you’ve booked an appointment in a private practice. Build a relationship with them. It could just be a TMJ issue. Hello! What’s that?  MPDS (Myofascial Pain Dysfunction Syndrome)—basically, all that exam stress students face, like the dental student I saw in college who tragically committed suicide. Later, I started this chatbot (available this year) or ChatGPT to be there for your deepest worries, with instructions set in the background.  Try it here . Art of Living meditation was conducted in college for other students we attended, to bring some happiness into their lives. I’ve also set it on my WhatsApp auto-greeting with instructions for cases when patients reach out and we aren’t always there

Oracura : Along with brushing your teeth, if you already have dental work—especially a lot of it, like Class 2 fillings, crowns, bridges, and implants in your mouth (from my experience, you can directly call the company on their company number and ask for an Ortho top tip as well)—it helps to really go into the crevices. Preferably, don’t buy the expensive ones; go for the one that is around 2k. They are very helpful, and they sometimes provide you with a demo video on how to use the water flosser. Otherwise, you can visit our site and watch the videos we’ve made to help you with mouthwashing, based on the one recommended by your dentist, orthodontist, or periodontist.  Watch here . The mouthwash options include Colgate or Dr. Reddy's (we'll get to that later), and tongue cleaning can be done with the bristles of the Oral B brush previously mentioned, instead of damaging the villi of your taste buds, which are sensitive to Indian spices.  Learn more about tongue brushes vs. t

Cleaning can remove tartar/plaque. What’s plaque? That dirt you wish you didn’t have. It can be at, below, or above the gum margin, and it needs to be professionally cleaned. If you keep brushing hard in the wrong way without guidance from your hygienist or dentist, you will eventually wear down the enamel with your toothbrush. I’ve noticed that the old electric Oral-B brushes with rotary movement were cutting the tooth and causing more damage than good. Hopefully, their new AI-launched brushes have corrected this issue. Generally, we recommend the  Oral-B Medium Bristles Toothbrush  (Pro-Health Gum wit

Time-specific role and purpose of the Elite Dental Club: Turning your dreams into reality, which is what makes it elite.

Tie-up Time or Freedom in Time: Time, Transition, and Tobacco What's the relationship? You don’t have to pass time with tobacco to witness a government transition or to experience anxiety or nervousness. Instead, build healthy habits. Brush right, left hand, whatever, and see yourself smile daily.  Tax, Time, and Tension:  Let go of life's stresses and focus on living in the moment. Everything has a purpose and a reason, or so Vaishnavites believe. "Hey Ram!"—the last words of Mahatma Gandhi—echo down through generations, just like "Jai Shri Ram" when taking on a Herculean task, or calling on Jesus for strength. When you feel the need for supernatural strength, trust that God will help you, as long as your reason is just and right. Presently, the right side has come to power, while the left, though weaker in opposition, still plays a crucial role—much like a dentist using a micro mirror with a watchful eye. The dentist may retract tissues, keep them safe,
